About Dr. J

What I do

I work with people who want to perform their best under pressure. Whether you are an athlete, a leader, or a high achiever in any arena or a parent wanting to sharpen your skills, I can help. My work focuses on building a mindset that enables you to think clearly when it matters most.

I never intended work in human performance

I began my career in traditional counseling, working with adolescents and families in crisis. Many were under-resourced, involved in the court system, drugs, and navigating complex generational trauma. I quickly learned that real progress depended on trust, clarity, and tools that worked under pressure, not just theory.

Later, as the clinical director of a residential drug and alcohol treatment center, I noticed that even educated, resourced adults struggled with the same patterns: poor emotional regulation, low frustration tolerance, and limited tools for handling adversity.

These experiences led me to study human performance and earn a doctorate in sports and performance psychology. I did not start out to work with athletes. I wanted to help people perform under pressure, develop skills that last, and create meaningful, lasting change.

You know what they say about making a plan…

I have leveraged my education and nearly two decades of clinical experience to pivot from traditional therapy to Mental Performance Coaching.

As part of that, I do work with junior  athletes and their parents, as well as high-school, club, and college athletes who want to optimize their mindset and consistently perform at the upper edge of their abilities.

I also work with pros, MVPs, champions, Hall of Famers, and Olympians be their best at their respective disciplines.

Hybrid skillset

The skills I teach elite performers are not limited to sports. Focus, mental clarity, emotional regulation, resilience, and the ability to perform under pressure are universal.

Just like top athletes, non-athletes benefit from learning how to notice distractions, manage stress, make decisions under pressure, and stay aligned with what matters most. Whether you are leading a team at work, creating art, managing a busy household, or navigating life’s unexpected challenges, these same skills help you show up at your best.

I have found this sweet spot in performance coaching that allows me to use my whole toolkit to help people outside of the "high-performance" domain. One of the greatest sources of satisfaction I have is giving people aha-moments that change their trajectory!
